MY ROLE AS A PRODUCER
I'm usually brought in as the mixing engineer, but I also excel at helping artists with that final 3% of production that can be so frustrating.
I offer a fresh, objective perspective to help figure out what your song needs to make it truly stand out, whether or not it's technically a "mix" thing.
If I have an idea to get your song closer to your vision, I'll share it with you, but you always have the final say.

I never expect “Mix1” to be perfect - it usually takes a little back and forth to uncover the magic. That’s why I don’t limit the number of revisions it takes to reach your goal.
I just ask to keep the notes in an email chain so that nothing falls through the cracks of DMs or text threads.

About Me
My name is Chesaré Johnson
I'm a multi-instrumentalist and audio engineer from Houston, TX, with over two decades of experience in the music industry. I started producing music in 2002 and began engineering in 2005. As the leader, co-lead singer, and bassist of my band, Space Villains*, we won the Houston Press' "More People Should Know About" award in 2016, and our album Asterism was highly praised by several press outlets. We signed with Roologic Records in 2016 and performed in front of over 10,000 people over eight years.
In 2018, I joined The Barron Collective, one of Houston's top recording studios, where I engineered, produced beats, led workshops, organized live events, hosted livestreams, and participated in a Guinness World Record attempt. I also produced music and engineered songs for LA-based artist Rodney McMillian's installation "In This Land" at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I've worked with artists like Tobe Nwigwe and members of Travis Scott's Cactus Jack label, along with hundreds of other local artists. After the pandemic, I started freelancing, mixing, and mastering tracks for artists worldwide from my home studio. I've also done sound design for short films and the Final Fantasy XIV trailer for Square Enix.
Now, I continue to bring my passion and expertise to every project I work on.
